Ocean Wolf is a marine science institute focusing on the taxonomy, ontogeny and reproductive biology of marine invertebrates.

Taxonomy is one of the oldest biological disciplines, which describes and identifies species.

Ocean Wolf is able to offer verified and reliable taxonomic identification. Read more…

Parataxonomy is a taxonomic tool used to assess the state of the environment.

We offer a variety of processing methods to fit your budget and consent requirements with additional taxonomic services for the identification of specific invertebrates (e.g. pest, non-native & indicator species). Read more…

Biosecurity refers to the prevention and mitigation of introduced organisms and pathogens to an ecosystem.

We can help with the identification review and mitigation of non-native species. Read more…

Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing sectors in New Zealand, particularly as it is the goal to quintuple (5x) revenue of this industry by 2035.

Ocean Wolf is uniquely positioned to support this goal through expertise in reproductive biology, ontogeny and ability to recognize pest species. Read more…

Community, education & research are fundamental to protect New Zealand’s unique environment, shoreline and to create a sustainable marine industry.

Ocean Wolf’s mission is to exchange knowledge, support and communicate research via workshops, lectures, discussions and articles. Read more…

Shoreline protection is often done with seawall construction and correlated with biodiversity loss and introduction of non-native species.

Ocean Wolf can help with fresh approaches in shoreline protection and ecosystem management by helping to develop projects like ‘living seawalls’ - artificial and biogenic reefs to reduce erosion and support ecosystem recovery. Read more…

Dr. Paul Wolf - Marine Biologist

Greetings,

The mission of Ocean Wolf is to provide a more accurate, reliable and cost-efficient service for taxonomy, biodiversity, and ecosystem recovery.

Our education and experience allow us to correctly apply taxonomy and parataxonomy disciplines while respecting the differences between both. Our knowledge in reproductive biology, recruitment, settlement, and ontogeny in marine invertebrates enables us to work beyond the classical alpha taxonomy and assist in matters of ecosystem recovery, aquaculture nursery and husbandry management.

With our broad national and international network, Ocean Wolf is able to provide Aotearoa, New Zealand, with the expertise to become a world leader in biosecurity and aquaculture.

Let’s bring our country forward, increase our sustainability and make our economy more resilient by advocating for correct science.

Please contact us, and we would love to meet and discuss your marine science project!

Kind regards,

Dr. Paul Wolf
